Sugar Sands By the Sea: Relaxed Luxury Lodging in Panama City Beach Florida

Sugar Sands By The Sea Resort is located on one of the cleanest Florida Panhandle beaches. I love its location at the edge of Panama City Beach, away from the busy sections, with plenty of quiet beach space to explore and savor.

All rooms at Sugar Sands have kitchens and are perfect for couples, families, or groups looking to save money, time, and stress on meals and snacks.

Sugar Sands By the Sea hosted my stay. The text, photos, and opinions in this article are my own.

McCool Travel note: Sugar Sands By the Sea is now called Sugar Sands Beachfront Hotel. It is also called Sugar Sands Inn & Suites on some websites and booking engines.

Rooms and Amenities at Sugar Sands By the Sea

Sugar Sands By the Sea Guest Rooms

Sugar Sands By the Sea has a few different room types to choose from. But all rooms have some things in common: queen beds (only), full kitchens, separate bathroom sink space from the toilet/shower room, waterfront balcony or patio (for ground level rooms).

Kitchens include a full-size refrigerator and oven with four burner cooktop, larger microwave, and supplies. The supplies include pots and pans, cooking utensils, dishwater (plates, bowls, silverware), ceramic coffee mugs, and plastic drink cups.

McCool Travel tip: bring your own non-breakable wine/cocktail drink ware, if desired.

Sugar Sands room types are configurations with two queens, two queens with a sleeper sofa, and a two queen suite. The queen suite is the largest room type and features a queen sleeper sofa and bunk beds and a larger balcony (or patio area).

There are actually two separate Sugar Sands buildings, both have five levels.

Larger families or couples traveling together may enjoy the Sugar Shack—with two king bedrooms, living room, full kitchen, and private patio with lake view. Guests must call the office to book this unit.

Public Areas at Sugar Sands By the Sea

The Sugar Sands By the Sea registration office is located between the two five-story buildings and is open 24 hours. That is helpful for guests: peace of mind that someone is always watching the building and onsite to address concerns, answer questions, or provide information.

The common pool area is behind the west building. Around the pool are some grills, picnic/sitting areas, lounge chairs, and a small playground area—the use of all are for every property guest and available on a first come, first served basis.

The beautiful US Gulf Coast beach is just steps through a gate—from the pool, or on the side of either building. A shower just inside the pool gate is convenient to rinse off beach sand and sea water.

A third-party business right on the beach right in front of the pool handles Jet Ski and chair rentals.

The quiet, undeveloped beach to the right (west) has protected areas for sea turtle nests and endangered birds. Please do not let any members of your party (or really anyone) disturb the protected areas.

Properly disposing your trash and not leaving items on the beach at night are two easy Ways to LOVE the US Gulf Coast.

Parking at Sugar Sands is free and unassigned. I never had an issue parking right in front of my building entrance but there is overflow parking right across the street.

Dining at Sugar Sands By the Sea

Sugar Sands By the Sea has no restaurants or prepared food options. Each room has a full kitchen and most guests bring their own food and drink to prepare meals. But there are also dozens of nearby restaurants.

The common room behind the registration office has a coffee station.

Guests at Sugar Sands By the Sea save 10% off their total bill at By the Sea Resorts restaurants, including the Barefoot Hide a Way Grill next to Radisson Hotel (near Gulf World).

One of my favorite local seafood places is nearby and is mentioned in US Gulf Coast Seafood Trail.

Sugar Sands is 1.5 miles west of Thomas Donut and Snack Shop, one of my US Gulf Coast Dessert Trail favorites. Their small batch ice cream and freshly made donuts are superb.

McCool Travel tip: I opted to eat out during the day and enjoy the spectacular US Gulf Coast sunsets and sunrises for breakfast and dinner.
